Acknowledgments
A throwaway comment today got me thinking about my acknowledgements.
I’ve met a lot of people on this little writing journey of mine. Not bad for a self-proclaimed recluse.
I started writing as a goof, but that quickly changed. It became my habit, my obsession.
Many people have motivated and inspired me. From people I’ve seen on the street who had the right look for a character, to my friends, family and loved ones. Sometimes people say things or do things that stick with me and inspire me. Target is an example of this. The title came from a discussion with a friend who was ranting about being stopped and searched by the police.
I’ve had many muses along the way. There are those who know they inspired me and those who don’t. For the ones who don’t, I doubt they ever will. This is a journey we have taken together, and we’re just getting started.
I’m going to do my best now to name some names. In no particular order:
- Unc (There would be nothing without his guidance, which continues to this day
- Marc (My writing and business partner for life – Picked me up out of the dumps more than once, and inspired me to go out and win)
- Michelle (Pushed and moulded me when I needed it the most
- Sally (One of my earliest inspirations)
- Rhyse (Gave me my first book title)
- Josh (My first writing partner)
- Raph (Consultant 1)
- Andrew (Consultant 2)
- Jimmy Wild – (Taught me how to format and structure my work – MASSIVE HELP. The lessons he taught me, I still use now)
- Haddy – Helped shape me. Gave me my first job. Listened to me rant about about creative nonsense during a number of meetings and phone calls)
- Charlotte (Another of my earliest inspirations)
- Bourkey (Amazing woman – I bored her to tears during many coffee meetings, but she stuck with me)
- Churchie (One of my poor editors – She suffered through the early drafts of my work)
- Coote (My homie for life. Without this guy, Target might have failed. His passion after reading an early version inspired me)
- Cobie (My 2nd Mother)
- T (My little brother)
- Amit (Helped set me straight)
- Peter Illidge (Edited Target)
- Cecelia (Made my Target cover)
- Tek
- Adam (Designed my site)
- Tosif
And of course, MyMy – You’re my heart and my centre, and I could never have achieved anything without you in my life. You drive me daily, and I love you.
